As is usually the case with Apple devices, rumours are flying about its next generation or even devices that are expected to arrive in the coming years.
It’s no surprise then that the latest reports talk about two upcoming devices, the first being about the next Apple Watch, and the second being about the 2017 iPhone, which will most likely be called the iPhone 7S.
Regarding who will manufacture the memory chips for the devices, this rumour points towards Toshiba and Mikron who are two long-standing business partners.
Other than these details though, the report doesn’t mention anything else, but, with most of the components seemingly sorted out, Apple could be preparing to start production of its next smartwatch in the near future. Moreover, with Apple’s WWDC event taking place in a couple of months’ time, it’s highly likely the device could be made official before June is over.
Moving on to the second report we mentioned above, it appears that, according to the Chinese edition of the Wall Street Journal, a source out of Korea has claimed that Apple has signed a 3-year contract with Samsung to supply it with OLED panels for future iPhones.
The interesting part of the report isn’t this though. In fact, it appears that the deal includes manufacturing over 100 million 5.5-inch AMOLED displays for the eventual iPhone 7S which will be launched next year, most likely around September 2017. The size of the requested display suggests that Apple will once again be launching a Plus model of the next generation iPhone and its “S” version in 2017. Either way though, Samsung has reportedly set aside a whole production line for Apple’s order.
With this order, it appears Apple is preparing to set its 2017 iPhone apart from other devices by including what many regard as some of the best displays on the market.
